Lauren Deane MSW, RSW

Lauren has an undergraduate degree in sociology from the University of Alberta. Following obtaining her degree Lauren worked in child and youth mental health. It was this experience that convinced Lauren she needed to go back to school and work further on her counselling skills to really be able to help people work through their problems on a deeper level.

Lauren completed a Master's in Social work with a clinical focus at the University of British Columbia. She completed her practicum hours at a residential treatment facility ("rehab") for alcohol and drug use. During this time, she worked with individuals with both mental health and addictions doing both individual and group therapy.

Lauren worked for Island Health as a "Mental Health and Substance Use Therapist" before beginning her private practice. As a Mental Health and Substance Use therapist Lauren specialized in working with individuals with addictions, mental health concerns and/or a combination of both. Lauren also worked to provide support and counselling to the loved ones of individuals with addiction concerns. Lauren provided both individual and group therapy sessions and designed curriculum for group therapy.

Lauren works primarily in a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy framework combined with motivational interviewing. Counselling with Lauren is client centered and she works with the client to define what they would like to get out of counselling.
